I'm half expecting an email/PM ordering me to remove them for copyright or something like that, even though it's only text.

If they do I’ll post them on mine!
By Jove I’m feeling militant this morning!!

we are out of options in that way, so i guess there is just no better way than giving you the possibility to get your tags back an assign them a new (valid) name.
But if you have any good idea feel free to share it.
-
- 2009-11-05 @ 14:22:44
Can you explain why it's a "five word limit"? My deleted tags were poem titles so a new (valid) name won't work.
An example "Through the eyes of a child" - yes six words but only 28 characters including spaces - surely that's manageable?
Someone suggested this theory:
"I occurs to me that the decision was made by a German, a language which habitually uses one very long word where English would use two of three. In German it may make sense to have a limit of five words, but in English it is nuts."

The intended audience for tags are the visitors of your blog, tags act as part of the navigation of your blog, "sentences" as a navigation often don't help, we have hard times showing our community how to properly tag, some people "abuse" the tag system as a fun component, tags in fact are very technical, flickr per example treats a "space" in a tag as a new tag, which is another approach to this problem.
Prior to this discussion we made statistics about tag usage, the length and the amount of words in tags, we found out that 99.9% of our tags are shorter than 51 chars and consist of up 4 words, we though a maximum of 5 words would be a good thing. We then analyzed those tags that were longer than 5 words, of those over 90% where "comma missing" tags
like: music love abba songs 70ies favorites
which was meant was 6 different tags but, entered as one.
btw: the english platform (BCUK) was those which (statistically) had the shortest tags, consisting of mostly less than 3 words.

My tags include the titles to my poems and are for visitors to my blog and did work as a navigation tool. There is a note in the header directing readers to the "index" created by tagging.
Yes technically they are "sentences"
As for statistics - that's how I feel - just one of the 10% who do not fit into your five word limit criteria.-

if you tag something and this very special tag is used only "once" ... than this is a bad way of using tags, the "title" of a post already contains the title, so it is linked in the archive already, it is searchable, there is no need to add the title again as a tag.
A Better aproach is to tag it with poem and some characteristics like
poem, sad
or poem, bitter
then a visitor can surf your blog for "sad poems", or poems in general, the title itself is already linked in the sitemap, the archive, the "recent posts"
Also a tag is a way of (automatically) linking related content,
if you go bad to my example, if you tag poems with "poem, sad"
Then under each of your posts there will automatically be a list of more sad poems.
To say it in a very simple way (repeat) a tag that is only used once, is not what tags are about.-
- 2009-11-05 @ 15:31:17
It may appear to you as a "bad way" of using tags but it has worked only too well for me in the past. The tags aren't only used once if you look at my blog you will notice that they are each used more than once (apart from the newly written ones) thus signifying how many times that poem has been posted. As I keep getting new readers, I choose to repost my poems from time and my older readers enjoy re-reading them. This is borne out in the many comments I receive from many visitors.
In addition, the titles of my posts are not the titles of my poems so they aren't linked that way. I like to choose topical eye catching post titles which fit the day/occasion or whatever takes my fancy and appeals to readers.
As I said (repeat!) "It may appear to you as a "bad way" of using tags but it has worked only too well for me in the past"
As for tagging posts "poem" you will note from an earlier complaint that the tag "poem" was removed from 260 or so of my poems the other day and you couldn't explain why.

Tut the tag "poem" was only gone temporary, wasn't it? it should be already back. Please tell us asap if the tag "poem" should still be gone.

- 2009-11-05 @ 16:00:49
No - it's only showing 4 which relate to my four latest posts after the "poem" tag disappeared from 259 existing posts!

There's no need to be so FUCKING sarcastic.
Maybe if you didn't fuck the whole thing up in the first place. You know? I'm sorry you lot have decided that we really should all be told what to do with our blogs and we're all just a bunch of morons. We're all so glad you techie geeky people are soooooo clever to tell us how we really should be doing things. God, I'm not sure I could cope without the service I FUCKING PAY FOR. (now that's sarcastic).
Jesus - sorry Landers, again, this woman really gets my goat.
Don't bother replying, please, I have had enough of the ineptness and patronising attitude of the people who run this site. If it wasn't for Rampage and the people I have met here - -well, I guess one more customer lost won't matter to you.

Yes, I was asked to remove them. I've also made the original entry a private one for my eyes only after an email I had saying it causes offence. I've said it states my opinion which I'm entitled to. I await a reply.
