This is the EasyJet EcoJet.
Currently it has no manufacturer.
It will fly no further than 2000nm and be lighter than other planes of it size and range.
It has a lower design cruise speed to reduce drag.

With this EasyJet think they can reduce their own carbon footprint by 50% by 2015.

But...

What about the increase in planes... from every operator not just EasyJet! Seems a bit pointless to me unless you can get all the airlines doing it and with BA & JAL spending a fortune on the 787 and the A380 and the EcoJet only travelling 2000nm, I just don't think operators, other than EasyJet, BMI and those of similar business, are going to buy it.

Nice try EasyJey, 10 out of 10 for effort.

thing is with all of these things as well you probably know is that they set the mark for others to follow. like the industry I work in (well most of our clients) as with the aviation industry et al, everyone is in a very tight race to come second.

  Yes, but, this will only set the bar for island hoppers or short-haul flights.
  
  Operators flying long-haul flights, which is most of the major airlines that could afford to replace their fleet with these, won't be interested in a plane that can only travel 2000nm.

      It would be great if they could get it going and it's nice that an operator is having such a big hand in the design.. afterall they are the ones who use the bloody things.

  The giant orange man is Andrew Harrison. Current CEO of EasyJet. He's holding it because it's only a pretend plane and can't fly. What you can't hear are the "whoooosh" and "zoooooom" noises he is making!

It's bad enough on short haul without making planes longer - fly from Coventry to Amsterdam and the drinks trolley never makes it down the length of the plane before landing as it is.

Or is it just the camera angle?

And the bloke looks like one of those terrible children's entertainers who do strange things with balloons - "Is it a bird kiddies? No it's a plane!".

I want cheaper long haul flights please. I've no kids, so bugger the future of the human race. The planet will take care of itself.

its a good thing isnt it more companies are trying to do similar things arent they I am sure that I saw on the news some other "eco jets" would be good for everyone surely .... well apart from those people who have to pay for them
